Updated September 2026. Houston's Latin American food runs far past Mexican, and the map is not one neighborhood. Ten countries keep dedicated restaurants, markets, soccer fields and dance floors here, spread from Spring Branch to Edgebrook.

We pulled every non-Mexican Latin American venue from our own database, then verified each one through Google Places on September 22, 2026. Here is what the numbers show before we get to the list:

  • 274 Latin American venues sit in our Houston database across nine cultural categories, not counting Mexican.

  • Honduran is the largest, with 28 venues, ahead of Peruvian at 23 and Brazilian at 22.

  • Colombian is the thinnest at 8 venues, which is why one restaurant carries that section.

  • El Producto de Peru holds the highest rating in this guide at 4.9 from 209 Google reviews.

  • Tourao has the deepest review base at 2,689, followed by Cafe Piquet at 2,445.

  • All 20 venues below were confirmed operational on September 22, 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Ten countries, 20 places: 10 restaurants and 10 markets, fields, studios and clubs.

  • Central American venues cluster in Gulfton, Sharpstown, Spring Branch and Airline Drive.

  • South American venues lean west, toward Bellaire Boulevard, Uptown, Katy and Barker Cypress.

  • Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican places spread across Bellaire, West Houston and Edgebrook.

  • Half of this list is not a restaurant, because soccer fields, pulperias and dance floors are where the communities actually gather.

Where Do Houston's Latin American Communities Cluster?

Country by country, the map splits into three broad zones. This table is built from the neighborhood field on every venue in our database, not from a single survey.

One note on how we tag these: our database records who a place is for as much as what it serves, so a venue can carry a Caribbean tag with the country in its cuisine field. If you want the same treatment for Asian Houston, start with Little Saigon, Asiatown and Koreatown.

10 Places to Eat, One Per Country

Every entry below carries its verified address, hours, phone and price level. Ratings and review counts come from Google Places, checked the day this went up.

Anita's Honduras Restaurant — Honduran

📍 Address: 12028 Hempstead Hwy, Houston, TX 77092

🕐 Hours: Mon-Sat 7 AM-10 PM; Sun 8 AM-10 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (713) 360-7424

🏙️ Area: Northwest Houston

This is the largest Honduran sit-down restaurant in our database, and Google reviewers rate it 4.3 from 688 reviews. Honduran breakfast runs early here, which is why the doors open at 7 AM six days a week.

💡 Local tip: Come for breakfast rather than dinner. The 7 AM open is built around Honduran morning plates, not the lunch rush.

Sazon Garifuna (Food Truck) — Honduran (Garifuna)

📍 Address: 8700 S Braeswood Blvd, Houston, TX 77031

🕐 Hours: Mon-Fri 8 AM-10 PM; Sat 8:30 AM-10 PM; Sun 9 AM-10 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (832) 978-1547

🏙️ Area: Fondren Southwest

Garifuna food comes from the Afro-Indigenous communities of Honduras's Caribbean coast, and it is a separate tradition from the mainland cooking most Houston menus show. The truck holds a 4.4 rating from 250 Google reviews and runs 14-hour days.

💡 Local tip: It is a truck with no website, so call ahead before a long drive. Garifuna cooking leans coastal and seafood-forward, unlike the inland Honduran plates at Anita's.

🌐 Website: none listed — call ahead

El Quetzal Bakery & Restaurant — Guatemalan

📍 Address: 5930 S Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77036

🕐 Hours: Daily 7 AM-9 PM

💰 Price: $

📞 Phone: (713) 272-6140

🏙️ Area: Sharpstown

Bakery and restaurant share one room here, open 14 hours a day, every day. Google puts it at 4.0 from 490 reviews, which makes it the most-reviewed Guatemalan spot on this list.

💡 Local tip: Guatemalan pan dulce is its own tradition, not a version of the Mexican one. Go in the morning while the bakery case is still full.

🌐 Website: none listed — call ahead

El Pupusodromo — Salvadoran

📍 Address: 6817 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77074

🕐 Hours: Mon-Thu 10 AM-7:30 PM; Fri-Sun 10 AM-8:30 PM

💰 Price: $

📞 Phone: (713) 270-5030

🏙️ Area: Sharpstown

The name translates roughly to 'the pupusa dome,' and the volume backs it up: 718 Google reviews, the most of any Salvadoran spot in our data. The 3.6 rating is the lowest in this guide, so we flag it as high-traffic rather than highest-rated.

💡 Local tip: Weekends run an hour later than weeknights. If you want a quieter table, go on a weekday afternoon.

Arepas By Perla — Venezuelan

📍 Address: 303 Memorial City Mall Ste 727, Houston, TX 77024

🕐 Hours: Mon-Sat 11 AM-8 PM; Sun 11 AM-7 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (346) 266-6100

🏙️ Area: Memorial City

Venezuelan arepas are split and stuffed rather than folded, and this counter has built a 4.5 rating from 487 reviews around them. Its mall location makes it the easiest first stop for anyone new to the cuisine.

💡 Local tip: Our own records had this listed in Southwest Houston; Google now shows Memorial City Mall, so use the mall address.

🌐 Website: none listed — call ahead

Made in Medellin — Colombian

📍 Address: 5901 Bellaire Blvd #106, Houston, TX 77081

🕐 Hours: Sun-Thu 8 AM-9 PM; Fri-Sat 8 AM-10 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (713) 485-0122

🏙️ Area: Gulfton / Bellaire Blvd

Colombian food is the thinnest Latin American category in our database with only eight venues, and this is its anchor at 4.2 from 308 reviews. Breakfast starts at 8 AM daily.

💡 Local tip: There are two locations, Bellaire and Westheimer. Check which one you are routing to before you drive.

CVCHE — Peruvian

📍 Address: 5353 W Alabama St Ste 100-10, Houston, TX 77056

🕐 Hours: Daily 11 AM-10 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (346) 292-5463

🏙️ Area: Uptown

Peru's coastal kitchen centers on ceviche, and this Uptown spot rates 4.6 from 229 Google reviews. It runs the same 11-hour schedule seven days a week, which is rare in this guide.

💡 Local tip: Peruvian cooking in Houston includes Nikkei, the Japanese-Peruvian hybrid. Ask what is on the raw side of the menu that day.

Tourao Brazilian Churrasqueria — Brazilian

📍 Address: 4412 Montrose Blvd, Houston, TX 77006

🕐 Hours: Mon-Thu 11 AM-3 PM & 5-10 PM; Fri-Sat 11 AM-10 PM; Sun 11 AM-9 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (713) 395-1050

🏙️ Area: Montrose

At 4.6 from 2,689 reviews, this is the most-reviewed venue in the entire guide. It is an independent churrascaria rather than one of the national steakhouse chains.

💡 Local tip: Weeknights close between 3 PM and 5 PM. Weekends run straight through, so a late Friday lunch works.

Cafe Piquet Cuban Cuisine — Cuban

📍 Address: 5757 Bissonnet St, Bellaire, TX 77401

🕐 Hours: Tue-Thu 11 AM-8 PM; Fri-Sat 11 AM-9 PM; Sun 11 AM-7 PM; Mon closed

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (713) 664-1031

🏙️ Area: Bellaire

A Houston Cuban institution with 2,445 Google reviews at a 4.6 rating, the highest review count of any Caribbean venue here. It anchors the Spanish-speaking Caribbean side of this guide.

💡 Local tip: Closed Mondays, and Sunday service ends at 7 PM. Plan around those two gaps.

La Casa Del Mofongo — Dominican & Puerto Rican

📍 Address: 125 E Edgebrook Dr Ste C, Houston, TX 77034

🕐 Hours: Sun-Thu 11 AM-8 PM; Fri-Sat 11 AM-9 PM

💰 Price: $$

📞 Phone: (832) 469-4116

🏙️ Area: Edgebrook

Mofongo belongs to both the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and this kitchen claims both, with 958 reviews at a 4.0 rating. Its storefront flies the Dominican, Colombian and Puerto Rican flags together.

💡 Local tip: This is the far southeast corner of the map, near Ellington. Pair it with a Clear Lake trip rather than driving down on its own.

🌐 Website: none listed — call ahead

How Do You Plan a Latin American Day in Houston?

Three routes work, depending on which side of town you start from. Each keeps the driving short, which matters here.

  • Southwest run: El Quetzal on South Gessner, then El Pupusodromo on Bissonnet, then Canchas Pulga Loca for weekend soccer, all within about three miles.

  • West Houston night: dinner at Rumba Live on Highway 6, then Parceros two minutes up the same road for a Friday or Saturday Colombian floor.

  • Market morning: Tierra Centroamerica on Wirt Road, then Mi Tierra Honduras on Little York, then breakfast at Anita's on Hempstead.

  • Budget version: four of these carry a single-dollar price level and one is free. See our cheap eats guide for more under-$10 options.

  • Driving note: Gulfton, Sharpstown and Spring Branch parking is mostly free surface lots. Our traffic and parking guide covers the tolls if you are crossing town.

Going out after dark? Pair this with things to do in Houston at night, and for the Mexican side of the city start at the Sunny Flea Market.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Latin American food can you find in Houston besides Mexican?

At least ten national cuisines have dedicated venues here: Honduran, Guatemalan, Salvadoran, Venezuelan, Colombian, Peruvian, Brazilian, Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican. Our database tracks 274 Latin American venues in the Houston area, with Honduran the largest non-Mexican group at 28 venues. Bolivian and Argentine spots exist too, though in smaller numbers.

Where is the Latin American neighborhood in Houston?

There is no single one. Honduran and Salvadoran venues concentrate in Spring Branch, Gulfton and along Airline Drive; Guatemalan spots sit around Gulfton and South Gessner; Venezuelan and Colombian businesses lean west toward Katy and Bellaire Boulevard; and Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican places spread across West Houston, Bellaire and the southeast. Plan by country, not by one district.

What is the difference between a pupuseria and a pulperia?

A pupuseria is a restaurant serving pupusas, the Salvadoran stuffed masa rounds. A pulperia is the Central American corner store, selling groceries and household goods. Tierra Centroamerica on Wirt Road is a pulperia; El Pupusodromo on Bissonnet is a pupuseria.

What is Garifuna food?

Garifuna cooking comes from the Afro-Indigenous communities along the Caribbean coast of Honduras, Belize and Guatemala. It leans coastal and seafood-forward and is distinct from inland Honduran cooking. In Houston, Sazon Garifuna on South Braeswood is the one truck in our database serving it.

Where can you dance salsa in Houston?

Latin Dance Factory in Pearland teaches seven days a week and stays open to 2 AM on weekends. The Palladium in West Houston splits the week: instruction from 6:30 to 10 PM on weeknights, social dancing from 9 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Sundays. Rumba Live on Highway 6 pairs Cuban food with live music daily.

How We Verified This List

Every venue here was checked against Google Places on September 22, 2026, and any place showing as closed was dropped before publication.

  • Status: all 20 returned an operational business status on the day of publication.

  • Hours, addresses and phone numbers: taken from each venue's Google Places record, not from older listings.

  • Ratings and review counts: Google Places, same date. These change, so treat them as a snapshot.

  • Venue counts by country: our own Houston database of 2,188 venues, queried the same day.

  • What we left out: specific menu prices. We publish dollar figures only when we have verified them in person, so this guide uses price levels instead.

Two records changed since our last check: Arepas By Perla now lists Memorial City Mall, and Latin Dance Factory now lists Pearland. Both are reflected above.
