Updated September 2026. Harwin Drive runs about four miles through southwest Houston between Hillcroft and Beltway 8, and it is the cheapest place in Texas to buy jewelry, handbags, party supplies, cowboy boots, wigs, perfume and blank apparel. Most stores open around 9:30 or 10 AM and close by 6 or 7 PM, and a large share close Sunday entirely. Parking is free everywhere. Bring cash — several stores set card minimums — and give yourself at least three hours.

What Is Harwin Drive?

Harwin is a four-mile stretch of strip centers, indoor malls and warehouse showrooms in southwest Houston, roughly bounded by Hillcroft on the east and Beltway 8 on the west. It functions as a wholesale district that also sells retail — many of the store owners buy in bulk and supply shops around the country, then sell the same goods to walk-in customers at close to their cost.

The district has grown almost entirely without advertising. As Sam Kim, owner of Bella Jewelry, put it to ABC13: they've been hiding, doing little marketing or promotion, running mainly on word of mouth. That's why a Houstonian can live here twenty years and never go.

Three things to understand before you arrive:

  • The buildings look worse than the inside. Visitors repeatedly describe exteriors that read as run-down or even abandoned, then find a maze of packed shops inside. Don't judge from the parking lot.

  • Sunday closures are widespread. SW Trading, Innovation Boots, Supreme Party Supply and Harwin Wholesale Center are all closed Sunday. Harwin Central Mart opens noon–5 PM Sunday, a short window.

  • It rewards patience. The Houston Visitors Bureau's own guidance is to pack your patience along with comfortable shoes. That's accurate. This is not a quick errand.

Where Should You Start?

Harwin Central Mart

📍 Address: 9700 Harwin Dr, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Sat 9:30 AM – 7 PM; Sun 12–5 PM 💰 Price: $ — most accessories under $15 📞 Phone: (713) 339-9669 🏘️ Area: Sharpstown, between Fondren and Gessner Rating: 4.2 (983 reviews)

The two-story indoor mall is the standard first stop, and it's the right one. Large free lot, wheelchair access, security staff on site, clean restrooms, and — a detail regulars mention — genuinely good lighting and ventilation, which matters when you're three hours deep.

Downstairs runs heavy on jewelry, accessories and craft supplies. Shoppers into jewelry-making single this out for raw materials — beads, findings, charms — at prices that don't exist at a craft chain. Upstairs shifts toward leather goods, and there's a small café where the staff speak Spanish; other customers routinely translate for each other.

💡 Local tip: Sorority and Greek-letter merchandise is a specialty here. If you're outfitting a chapter, this is the cheapest source in the city.

Harwin Outlet Mall

📍 Address: 9507 Harwin Dr, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Sat 10 AM – 7 PM; Sun 11 AM – 6 PM 💰 Price: $ 🏘️ Area: Sharpstown Rating: 4.1 (860 reviews)

Two hundred yards from Central Mart and worth doing in the same trip. The mix leans toward imitation jewelry, hats, bags, hairbands and clips, plus a fragrance vendor that shoppers call out specifically for selection and price.

💡 Local tip: This is the one with the aggressive air conditioning. One reviewer described walking in as entering an ice box. In a Houston August, plan your route so you're inside here at 2 PM.

Which Stores Are Actually Worth Your Time?

SW Trading Accessory Plaza

📍 Address: 8000 Harwin Dr, Suite 410, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Sat 9 AM – 5:45 PM; Sun closed 💰 Price: $ — most items $5–$10 📞 Phone: (713) 975-6714 🌐 Website: swtrading.net Rating: 4.5 (173 reviews)

Family owned and operated since 1982, and the most consistently praised store on the strip. Jewelry, handbags, luggage, belts, hats, sunglasses, scarves, crowns.

The specifics people report: main price range $5–$10 for the good pieces, occasional finds at $3, and one shopper who bought her wedding earrings here for $9. There's a rewards program and periodic discount codes. Bridal and quinceañera accessories are a strength, as is holiday merchandise.

💡 Local tip: There's a dollar minimum to use a card, and regulars advise parking in front rather than on the side for an easier exit.

Aviva Wholesale

📍 Address: 10355 Harwin Dr, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Sat 9 AM – 6:45 PM; Sun 10 AM – 4:45 PM 💰 Price: $–$$ 📞 Phone: (713) 518-7272 Rating: 4.8 (2,412 reviews)

The highest-rated business on Harwin by a wide margin, and a completely different proposition from the accessory malls. Blank apparel — Comfort Colors shirts, hoodies, tote bags — plus heat transfer vinyl, puff vinyl and DTF supplies.

If you run a small apparel or craft business, this is the reason to drive to Harwin. Owners of decorating businesses report sourcing most of their HTV and shirts here, and the staff will walk you through technique questions rather than just ringing you up.

💡 Local tip: It's open Sunday, which most of the strip is not. If Sunday is your only free day, build the trip around Aviva.

Innovation Boots

📍 Address: 7241 Harwin Dr, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Fri 9 AM – 6 PM; Sat 9 AM – 4 PM; Sun closed 💰 Price: $$–$$$ 📞 Phone: (713) 782-3244 Rating: 4.8 (149 reviews)

Real leather boots made in Mexico — traditional cowboy leather through exotic skins including eel and ostrich — for men, women and kids, plus hats, belts and horse tack.

This is the exception to Harwin's cheap-and-cheerful rule. Customers describe it as pricey for the strip but worth it for quality. What sets it apart is the service: they'll stretch boots for wide calves, add lining to a hat so it fits snug, and punch extra holes in a belt, all as part of the sale.

💡 Local tip: This is where Houstonians go for last-minute rodeo gear in February and March. Go before rodeo season if you want the selection.

Everbloom Fashion

📍 Address: 7501 Harwin Dr, #105-B, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Sat 10 AM – 6 PM; Sun 12–5 PM 💰 Price: $$ — wedding dresses from around $200 📞 Phone: (832) 767-2502 Rating: 3.7 (32 reviews)

Formalwear at volume: wedding dresses, quinceañera gowns, bridesmaid and dama dresses, prom. Roughly 8,000 square feet of it. There are proper fitting rooms with a raised platform and full-length mirrors, which is not standard on this street.

The prices are the draw. One shopper compared five other Harwin stores and bought a wedding dress here for $200 where the same styles ran $350 and up elsewhere. Prom gowns come in around $100 under mall pricing for comparable styles.

💡 Local tip: No exchanges. Multiple customers have run into this, including on unworn items with tags attached. Get the size right in store — try everything on before you pay.

Supreme Party Supply

📍 Address: 7440 Harwin Dr, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Fri 9:30 AM – 6 PM; Sat 9:30 AM – 5 PM; Sun closed 💰 Price: $ 📞 Phone: (713) 777-2789 Rating: 4.3 (417 reviews)

Balloons across most major brands, artificial flowers, lights, tableware, decorations. If you've priced a balloon arch at a chain party store and flinched, this is the fix.

💡 Local tip: The inventory is dense to the point of overwhelming. Ask — the staff know where things are and will walk you to them, which is faster than wandering.

Harwin Wholesale Center

📍 Address: 7501 Harwin Dr, Suite 101A, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Mon–Sat 9 AM – 6 PM; Sun closed 💰 Price: $$ Rating: 4.3 (336 reviews)

Furniture and household goods. Shoppers report buying three-piece living room sets here at prices well under retail, paying cash.

💡 Local tip: Verify condition and financing terms in person. Some shoppers arriving on the strength of online listings have found the in-store reality different from the advertisement. Cash and your own eyes are the safe approach.

Where Should You Eat on Harwin?

Mezban

📍 Address: 6655 Harwin Dr, #108, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Daily 11 AM – 9:30 PM 💰 Price: $$ 📞 Phone: (713) 952-0606 Rating: 4.0 (1,581 reviews)

Pakistani buffet at the Hillcroft end of the strip, and the default lunch stop for anyone shopping Harwin. The naan comes out fresh and they keep it coming. Beef paya gets specific praise. Plates get cleared quickly, which matters when you're mid-shopping-trip.

💡 Local tip: The spice level is real, not Americanized. If you're heat-sensitive, ask before you load a plate.

Asian Food Market (Burmese Market)

📍 Address: 10302 Harwin Dr, Suite A, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Daily 9 AM – 9 PM 💰 Price: $ 📞 Phone: (713) 434-6118 Rating: 4.1 (24 reviews)

A family-run corner grocery that is one of only two places in Houston serving Burmese food. Fresh vegetables and pantry goods during the week; the Burmese dishes come out on weekends. Small, crowded, and completely unadvertised.

💡 Local tip: Go on a weekend for the prepared food. Midweek it's a grocery store.

What Else Is on Harwin Besides Shopping?

Sanatan Shiv Shakti Mandir of Houston

📍 Address: 6640 Harwin Dr, Houston, TX 77036 🕐 Hours: Daily 8 AM – 8 PM 💰 Price: Free 📞 Phone: (713) 278-9099 Rating: 4.8 (462 reviews)

A Hindu temple on a large property with ample parking, housing multiple deities. It runs the full Hindu ritual calendar — Ganesh Chaturthi, Shivratri, Diwali — along with community meals. Visitors describe it as quiet and genuinely restorative, which is a strange and welcome thing to find between two wholesale warehouses.

💡 Local tip: Dress modestly and remove your shoes before entering the prayer hall. Free to visit, and visitors of any background are welcome.

Harwin Compared to Houston's Other Shopping Districts

When Is the Best Time to Go?

How Do You Shop Harwin Without Getting Overwhelmed?

  • Bring cash. Card minimums are common and cash carries weight at the wholesale counters.

  • Wear shoes you can walk four miles in. This is the Visitors Bureau's advice and it isn't a figure of speech.

  • Pick a category before you arrive. "Jewelry" is a plan. "Shopping" is how you lose four hours and buy nothing.

  • Check the return policy at the register, every time. Many stores are final-sale. Assume no exchanges unless told otherwise.

  • Negotiate on volume, not on single items. Vendors will deal, but quantity is what moves the price.

  • Inspect before you pay. Quality is genuinely mixed across the district. Most is decent; some isn't.

  • Do the indoor malls in the afternoon heat and the standalone stores in the morning.

Getting There

Harwin runs parallel to and just south of Westpark, between Hillcroft and Beltway 8. About 20 minutes from downtown outside rush hour, 10 from the Galleria, and 5 from Bellaire Boulevard's Chinatown. Free parking throughout.

The natural pairing is Harwin in the morning, lunch at Mezban, then Chinatown on Bellaire in the afternoon — all three are within a few miles of each other.
